Usha
I had read it before, but don't know if I had left a comment.
I saw this in the blast from past (the blast kind of reminds me of Brandon Fraser's movie) and read it again. Poignant tale. Excellent translation as flavourful as the vadas without onions .

Regards

Recently I read Santha Varier's short story collection, and this vadas without onion was the
first story in that book........U could try to translate more of her short stories......especially that
story of monkey .....

A good story.  Reminds me of my father.  On the thirteenth day after his passing away, we distributed parcels of rendu vadai oru idli ( two vadas and one idli) from his favourite hotel to all who were dear and near to him as that was what  he used to ask for whenever we wanted to get him something from the hotel,
By the way, the past tense for lie is lay.
